What is Spina Bifida?
Spina bifida is when the spine of the baby fails to close, creating an opening or a lesion on the spinal column. This can cause symptoms such as paralysis and neurogenic bladder. Surgery is typically done to close the spine immediately after birth, which reduces further damage.
The three types of spina bifida are:
-
- Occulta
- Meningocele
- Myelomeningocele
